    1 review for BKF M4A1 SOPMOD Block 1 14.5″ 5.56 Nato – Anodized

    1. doc.j1970 (verified owner)

Hello friends, neighbors, enemies, frienemies, inlaws, and outlaws.
My name is Corey, but you can call me Doc.
Owing to the current situation on the streets, and the fact I came into a bit of money, I decided to renounce my Fudd ways and go looking for a fighting weapon…..that wasn’t from the 1800s. Having spent considerable time in certain middle eastern countries carrying an M4A1 SOPMOD Block 1, I decided that I should just go with what I know and buy the civilian version. My first stop wasn’t B. King’s Firearms, it was another company famous for their FN-FAL rifles. Sadly, they weren’t interested in my $1,200 as they were not only out of stock, their AR lines wasn’t even running to build more. On I went, determined and irritated. After a bit more scrolling and I come across this weapon, made by this company. Damn! It even had the pimp handle and the carry handle with standard sights…..and it was almost $300 less than the one by the “other guys”. I was in love. With shaking hands I called them up and one of the guys with the patience of a saint answered all of my stupid questions while I fangirled over this rifle.
Long story short, I brought it. They sent it in a timely manner, and a couple of weeks that were the longest years of my life later, I was in my local FFL dealer’s shop staring down at her in her hard case. (Yeah, they threw that in too.) She was immaculate and the fit and finish were superb. The action felt a little gritty….but that’s what a brand new phosphate coating feels like. You gotta run a couple of boxes of ammo through to smooth it out. I did just that, and she’s greasy smooth. I fed her a couple of boxes of. 223 just to get a feel for her, and while no DMR, she’s damned accurate for a carbine with iron sights. (Yes, I’m getting optics. Shut up.) No issues feeding from GI magazines, solid lock up, no issues extracting or ejecting. The shell casings all landed in the 1600 position so she isn’t overgassed running. 223. I’ll have to see about 5.56 later and if she is, I’ll run a H2 or H3 buffer. The trigger is……a GI trigger. Duh! It’s a milspec rifle. You want a sexy competition trigger, go get one, but I made a living pulling a GI trigger and I don’t mind it on a service rifle and that’s what she is, a service rifle….minus the giggle switch. And even though she only got a two position selection, her receiver has the “Burst” selector position marked on it……and it’s got an M16 cut …..maybe you know a guy……Nevermind.
This rifle is everything I was looking for. If you’re an old GWOT veteran and want a piece of your foolish youth that you can shoot, or you’re into the “retro” AR scene (damn kids), the BKF M4A1 SOPMOD Block 1 is your rifle.
The guys at BKF are great, and very helpful.
      Their rifles are top notch.
This rifle is excellent and I could not be happier with it.
